Cascade Cycling Classic

[BEND], [OR] — Two-time national champion Bart Bowen has picked up where he left off, promising to bring the

Cascade Cycling Classic back for a 39th year of competition from May 29th through June 2nd, 2019. Bowen, owner of Bowen Sports Performance in Bend, says the event will bring racing back to the people of Central Oregon by focusing on community and youth engagement.

“Our primary goals as promoter this year are to see that the event becomes an avenue for new and young cyclists to become more engaged in the sport, but also to really engage the community at large more fully in the racing -- even those who may know nothing at all about bike racing,” says Bowen. “Everyone gets excited about fast, head-to-head racing. We want to showcase this action in a way that benefits the community on the whole.”

The Cascade Cycling Classic, now in its 39th edition, held the title of the longest continuously running stage race in North America until last season’s late transfer of ownership and eventual postponement. Some of the top men's and women's racers from around the world have competed in this great event. But so have a lot of aspiring amateur racers from across the country. Unlike its last running in 2017 as a UCI race, the Cascade Cycling Classic will once again field a full range of categories in 2019 to embrace racing at all ages and ability levels.

Worthy Brewing has promised to continue their support for the CCC as a title sponsor for 2019. The event is currently working towards furthering new sponsorship opportunities across the board. The CCC is grateful for the critical support offered by foundational partner organization Visit Bend last year to keep the event alive, as well as their continued community support going forward. Assisting with the sponsorship search this year is new owner, newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation, Cascade Cycling Classic Youth Foundation. Brainchild of Bowen, the foundation represents a culmination of ideas that the event’s promoter has been building for years as an effort to get more kids on bikes.

The 2019 Cascade Cycling Classic will run from May 29 through June 2nd, filling a gap in the USA Cycling professional racing calendar and taking advantage of the “shoulder season”, which allows for safer race routes and more accessible accommodations. Stay tuned for more details on stages and racing format.
